Pointless host Alexander Armstrong has spoken about his weight loss and how he continues to stay in shape. The presenter admitted that he was not happy with his appearance on television and so decided to overhaul his diet and lifestyle.

“I couldn’t bear looking at myself on TV,” Alexander, 51, said of his first appearances on the BBC game show.

The father-of-four went on to say that when the programme first aired in 2009, he was two stone heavier.

The comedian, known for his Armstrong and Miller partnership, revealed that he now follows an intermittent fasting diet.

He has been following the regime for almost a decade now and is still seeing positive results.

“When I started doing Pointless way back in 2009 I was a good two stone heavier, I just couldn’t bear looking at myself.

“It looked like I’d eaten all the pies on telly,” he told MailOnline.

“So I decided I must do something about that and I changed my diet massively,” the BBC star went on to explain.

“The best thing by far was fasting.

“I’ve been doing the 5:2 since 2012, it’s a great way of getting your health in order,” he added.

Alexander, who is married to Hannah Bronwen Snow, said the data for fasting was very positive.

He claimed it was great for the metabolism as well as ”cell regeneration”.

The Pointless host does not eat after 6pm and tries to have a late breakfast in order to go without food for a longer period.
