Angie Harrington Departs From ‘RHOSLC’ Following Son’s Autism Diagnosis

Unveiling the reason why she quits the ‘Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’, the reality TV star recalls the moment she felt like ‘the biggest failure’ due to her 4-year-old son’s condition.

AceShowbiz –Angie Harrington has made a decision to quit “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City“. As she opened up about her 4-year-old son’s autism diagnosis, the TV personality came clean about her future on the Bravo hit reality series, revealing that she could no longer commit to the show.

In an interview on Wednesday, May 10, the 41-year-old admitted to PEOPLE, “I was offered to come back but this is just a time when my family really needs me, and I wasn’t able to commit to it.” She further revealed that co-stars Heather Gay and Meredith Marks were also aware of her decision and her family’s situation.

“I shared with them that I have to choose my family right now,” she stated. “I already struggle with focus and the show adds another element of stress. I want to be able to give my kids what they need in this moment. And I have to wrap my head around what we’re doing with Hart in order to know how I can continue forward in my work as well. They were extremely supportive and wonderful.”

“RHOSLC” aside, Angie got real about her son’s autism. “I think we noticed that something wasn’t typical with Hart, probably around age one. He was extremely advanced physically,” she recounted how she and her family found out that Hart had the developmental disorder.

The mom of three went on to list the signs she noticed in the son she shared with husband Chris Harrington. “He was walking by 9 months. He was climbing on things, but he wasn’t saying those little words that you expected your 1-year-old to start saying,” she pointed out.

During the chat, Angie also recalled how COVID complicated the observation of Hart’s condition. “As you can imagine, everything was over Zoom, and oftentimes, when it’s about autism, it’s about the nuances and watching a child’s behavior. So we tried to do it over Zoom and it just came back inconclusive,” she said. “They just wanted to do more testing, and so once COVID was over, that’s when we took him in to get an evaluation.”

The TV personality additionally looked back at the time when her son was three years old and started his preschool. Describing the period of time as “extremely challenging,” she explained, “As a parent, I would have to stay in there for the first 30 minutes and then sneak out, and he would freak out.”

“So I was sitting in preschool with all these 3-year-olds. I would watch him with the other kids, and the other kids would follow the instructions. Hart would be wandering around the classroom, getting into the teacher’s supplies,” she continued recounting.

“And I just remember getting in my car crying, just feeling like the biggest failure because I thought this was my fault as a parent, that I had done something wrong,” she confessed. “I remember going home to my husband and just saying, ‘Daddy, he’s different. Our boy is different,’ and we knew it, but this moment was very defining for us.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Angie shared her reaction when Hart was finally diagnosed with autism in November 2022. She candidly spoke, “We cried. It wasn’t the dream we had for our child, but we had to and have empowered ourselves.” She added, “We all come together to protect Hart and love Hart and do whatever we can to help him through this process.”
