Ashley Cain in tears as he’s set to become dad again after daughter’s death

Ashley Cain on why he kept beard long after tragic Azaylia death

Ashley Cain has revealed he’s going to be a father again, just two years on since tragically losing his eight-month-old daughter Azaylia. The 33-year-old has previously opened up about his beloved daughter’s death after she battled a rare form of cancer.

Now, two years on from Azaylia’s devastating death, Ashley has revealed his first-born was the first person to know he is welcoming a second child.

Sharing the news with The Sun on Sunday, Ashley broke down in tears as he recalled visiting his daughter’s grave to tell her the news that she was going to be a big sister.

He said: “The first thing that I did was go down to Azaylia’s resting place to talk to her about it.

“I believe that was a huge part that has allowed me to feel positive about it.

“I feel like she was the main person that I needed to speak to and to get this thing off my chest.

“After going to her resting place and speaking to her about it, I just had a feeling in my heart and in my soul that she was happy for me.”

Having shared his news with Azaylia, Ashley believes this allowed him to be positive about becoming a dad again.

In a new interview with the publication, the former footballer confirmed that he will be having a little boy, with Azaylia “happy” that she will have a little brother to watch over and “protect”.

 Ex On The Beach

The Ex On The Beach star revealed he is not in a relationship with the mother of his unborn son, but says they have been friends since the age of 18.

He also described the mum-to-be as a “really nice person and good to be around”.

Ashley also poignantly opened up about how he had felt stepping into the clinic to find out the sex of the baby, as the last time he had set foot in the clinic was when his daughter had tragically died.

Describing it as a “nerve-wracking” time, the star also went on to explain that it was both “hard” and “beautiful” at the same time, before coming to terms with the fact he was ready to take that step and be a father again.

Despite being blessed with baby joy, there is still another potential health battle on the horizon for the couple.

The 20-week scan for the little one revealed a potential heart defect, in which one of the valves of the heart may not have been connected properly.

Admitting just how “worried and scared” he feels, Ashley however remains positive as he explained that the little one will undergo a scan as soon as he’s born to double check for any problems.

Of finding out the sex, he said: “In the back of my head I didn’t really know how to deal or cope with it if it was a little girl.”

He added that it was perfect for him that he’ll have a little girl and now a little boy.

Azaylia, Ashley’s first born with his ex-girlfriend Safiyya Vorajee, lost her battle with acute myeloid leukaemia, a condition the youngster was diagnosed with at just eight weeks old.

As a result of the condition, she developed tumours on her lungs, stomach and kidneys and underwent several gruelling rounds of chemotherapy and even a bone marrow transplant before the condition sadly claimed her life.

She passed away peacefully in the arms of her parents at their home in Nuneaton in April 2021. A charity was later set up in her memory, called The Azaylia Foundation, to help others going through the same situation.

Ashley says it was “painful” for his ex-girlfriend and mother of Azaylia to find out he was having another child.
