Singer August Alsina has alleged that Will Smith ‘gave him his blessing’ to have an affair with Jada Pinkett Smith.
Alsina, 27, sparked rumours that he had a relationship with Jada, 48, with his song Nunya, the video for which featured a GIF of the Girls Trip actress.
And in an interview with The Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee to promote his YouTube documentary StateofEMERGEncy: The Rise of August Alsina and his new album, the singer alleged that he had a relationship over a number of years with Jada that was approved by her husband Will.
However, a rep for Pinkett Smith told Page Six that Alsina’s claims are ‘absolutely not true’. metro.co.uk has contacted a rep for the actress for further comment.
Alsina said: ‘I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation. Due to the transformation from their marriage to their life partnership that they spoken on several times, and not involving romanticism, he gave me his blessing.
‘I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life. I truly and really, really deeply loved, and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it. So much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.’
Alsina added: ‘I really loved the person that I experienced that [with] and know what [that feels] like – if some people never get that in this lifetime.
‘I know that I am completely blessed and this conversation is difficult because it is so much, that it would be hard for people to understand but — once it starts to affect me and my livelihood — I have to speak up about my truth.’
In 2019, Alsina dropped his track Nunya, which featured lyrics including: ‘Why is you textin’ me / Asking who next to me / Why you care about who having sex with me / Now you all on my line, why you pressing me?’
The video for which featured a text conversation with a woman named Koren – Jada’s middle name – and featured a GIF of Jada.
However, Alsina denied that he was starting drama with the song.
The I Luv This S*** singer said: ‘People can have whatever ideas that they like, but what I’m not ok with is having my character in question, when certain things are questionable that I know that’s not me. Contrary to what people may believe, I am not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous.
‘And I also don’t think that it is ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date … but in this instance it is very different because as I said, there are so many people that are side-eyeing me, looking at me questionable [sic] about it.
‘I have lost money, friendships, relationships behind it and I think it is because people don’t necessarily know the truth. But I have never done anything wrong.’
Addressing the Smith family, Alsina added: ‘I love those people literally like my family. I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.’
The singer was introduced to Pinkett Smith in 2015 by her son Jaden, and Alsina even attended the 2017 BET Awards with the actress.
Yee asked Alsina: ‘Is it disappointing that she never addressed it to you, because like you said, you lost out on opportunities?’
He said: ‘I really can’t even get into the thought of that because I am only responsible for myself, right. And I am only responsible for myself, right, and you know. what I do. When I am repressing and suppressing things and it starts to affect me. I have to address it. I just always stay solid because I never want to be the person to start confusion.’
In a now-deleted post for Jada’s 47th birthday, Alsina called Jada ‘an example of God’s divinity’, writing: ‘You’re A little piece of heaven here on earth. The Fortune in my cookie. The Vet to my Rookie.
‘You are LOVE personified. There hasn’t been enough diction created to articulate or express the capacity of my love for you.’
Rumours of an open relationship have plagued Will and Jada throughout their marriage, with Jada telling HuffPost in 2013: ‘‘I’ve always told Will, “You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be OK”.
‘Because at the end of the day, Will is his own man. I’m here as his partner, but he is his own man. He has to decide who he wants to be and that’s not for me to do for him. Or vice versa.’
However, she denied that they were in an open relationship, writing on Facebook: ‘Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship…this means we have a GROWN one.’
The Matrix star also told The Guardian that she is ‘not built for conventional marriage’.
Jada and Will tied the knot in 1997 and went on to have two kids together, Jaden, 21, and 19-year-old Willow.
