BBC fans are in for a treat this Christmas as broadcaster announces the return of THIS hit music show
BBC fans are in for a treat this Christmas because the broadcaster has announced the return of a hit music show.
On Christmas Day, viewers will once again be able to tune into Top Of The Pops for a Christmas special following the shock axe of these episodes in 2022.
Top Of The Pops aired weekly from 1964 to 2006. Since then, it returned every year at Christmas time until 2021.
It was the world’s longest running music chart show and each episode featured performances by the artists of the best-selling songs for that week and subsequently, with the Christmas specials, for that year.
December’s episode will be hosted by Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo and promises to include performances from ‘some of the biggest pop stars of 2023’.

The Christmas special was previously hosted by Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates, but Clara replaced Reggie in 2017 and went solo when Fearne stepped down.
It was announced in December 2022 that the Top Of The Pops would be cancelled completely due to budget woes.
‘Beeb bosses felt the cost involved in creating a one-off show like this were too high to justify,’ a source said at the time.
Fans feared it really was the end of the road as Fearne had stepped down the previous year after she ‘reflected on the projects she wants to carry on pursuing’.
The presenter previously revealed that presenting TOTP surrounded by a ‘plethora of gorgeous popstars’ fuelled her insecurities.
She opened up about her journey with mental health in an interview with Stella, and talked about the triggers that led to her struggles with bulimia and depression.
The veteran presenter explained at the time: ‘When I was doing Top of the Pops in the 1990s there was a plethora of gorgeous young pop stars around,
‘From Samantha Mumba to Steps, they all looked like these confident, luminous beings to me, with flat stomachs and stylists and make-up artists.’

She added: ‘I never felt I was exuding that kind of confidence or ability. Even later, I always felt a step behind everyone else.’
The likes of Slade, The Spice Girls, Wham!, Madonna, Beyonce and Robbie Williams have all performed on the iconic show over the years.
Take That, Steps, Peter Andre, Mariah Carey, The Beatles, and Elton John were also among the star guests.
Top Of The Pops returns on Christmas Day 2023.
