BBC Call the Midwife’s Helen George details awkward encounter with fan on new series
Call the Midwife stalwart Helen George has revealed she experienced an incredibly awkward moment with a fan of the BBC period drama.
The 39 year old star, who was previously in a relationship with her co-star Jack Ashton from the show, is currently filming episodes for the new series due to air in January 2024.
The Nurse Trixie Franklin actress, who has played the bubbly blonde ever since the series first debuted, continues to shoot scenes at the show's Historic Dockyard location in Kent, which doubles up for East London.
It is also where official fan tours for the BBC favourite take place, with staff often dressing up in traditional nurse outfits from the 1950s and 1960s.
As a result, customers could mistake cast members for tour guides, leading Helen to open up on one such embarrassing experience.
Chatting to presenter Claudia Winkleman, according to The Sun, the actress explained: "This week I was mistaken for a Trixie lookalike impersonator tour guide at the Chatham museum, and asked for directions to the toilet!
"I obliged, as I knew where they were!" Helen went on, but admitted that she has even used this to her advantage at times.
"Sometimes if I’m down there and sort of not in the mood, if someone says 'Are you Trixie from Call the Midwife?', I say 'No, I’m a tour guide'. It works both ways!" the star giggled.
While fans can expect to see Helen's iconic Trixie bob back in action on the new series of Call the Midwife, the actress herself has opted for a fresh hair look as autumn inches ever closer.
Sharing a fresh set of selfies on her Instagram page, the actress showed off her nearly-black tresses with a sleek straight style.
The star first went for a new shade earlier this year, but has opted to dye her mane even darker ahead of her most recent post.
Fans instantly noticed the comparison to the iconic character of Wednesday from The Addams Family, which couldn't be further from Helen's alter-ego in Call the Midwife.
"You do look like Wednesday with the black hair!" one person commented.
Another fan praised: "Love the dark hair" while a third said: "Love love LOVE the dark hair!"
"Be fun to see Trixie with dark hair next season," another fan suggested.
While fans are safe in the knowledge that Trixie will most definitely back on screens in the next series of the BBC drama, that may not be the case for Olly Rix, who plays Trixie's new husband Matthew Aylward.
Last month, it was reported that he had been axed from the show and Matthew would be written out of future storylines, and Olly, 36, was also said to only have been told of his character's exit after filming had already got underway.
A TV source reportedly told The Sun: "The news of Olly’s departure has left the cast and crew stunned and upset.
"They all thought he was a mainstay on the series after his prominent wedding scenes to Helen last season. Some feel it’s a bit unfair and he is well-liked by everyone."
The source added at the time that many cast members felt the axing was rather "out of the blue," but fans will have to wait and see how the story unfolds.
