Billie Shepherd: ‘I’ve got tough skin when it comes to social media trolls’
She's been in the spotlight for a cool 13 years since bouncing onto screens as a TOWIE newbie in 2010. And Billie Shepherd has built up quite the thick skin over her time in the industry.
It's no secret that the mother-of-three has often found herself as a victim to social media trolls, as she tells OK! that while it's 'easy to bite back', she has found a way to deal with the backlash.
"It’s horrible getting nasty comments on social media but I feel like I’ve been in the industry so long that I’ve got a second layer of skin to it. I try to delete or block any negativity on my page towards me or my family," explains Billie as we probe how she copes with social media.
She continues: "I know it’s not easy for everyone to do that, but that’s the way I try to switch off from it. Social media can be amazing but there also not so positive things that come from it.
"It’s hard not to go down a dark rabbit hold and bite back – I often think who actually does things like that [posting nasty comments]? You have to be a certain type of person."
Billie often shares insight into her life with her 2.7M Instagram followers, updating fans on her husband Greg and their three children; Nelly, Arthur and baby Margot. While they also film their lives for ITVBe reality show The Family Diaries.
But it comes with downsides, as many are quick to share their opinions on Billie's parenting, including a recent occasion which saw her receive backlash following a trip the the Maldives.
The reality star was branded 'entitled' by social media users for complaining about her “nightmare” flight home from the Maldives with her family, which saw the mum-of-three having to hold her baby daughter Margot for several hours.
During the flight to the UK, Billie was forced to hold four-month-old Margot for 12 hours because the only bassinet available on the flight home was broken. But when Billie shared the experience, many fans branded her a 'princess' as they blasted her for complaining about holding her daughter.
While she usually tries to brush off the backlash, there is the occasion where Billie takes to Instagram to back herself against trolls. She recently hit out at "judgemental" trolls after she shared a video of her son Arthur's bedroom.
After she shared a video on Instagram of the newly decorated room, which appeared to have a rather minimalistic style, many argued that the room didn't have enough personality for a young boy – with some branding it a 'show home'.
Defending herself against these trolls, Billie commented: "Guys I think some need to calm down [laughing emoji] some of you getting so upset and judgemental.
"Arthur’s room is not complete and this post is focused on the beautiful lighting we chose and we do have a playroom where he has all of his toys. This is his nice calm space to chill and sleep in [kiss emoji]"
She shouldn't have any problem kitting out her recently renovated home as she has a brand new homeware collection, Chapter B, with Tesco – which includes nursery furniture too.
Chapter B by Billie Faiers’ Autumn/Winter 23 collection has arrived in nearly 300 Tesco stores nationwide
