Rising country star Caroline Jones has dropped a new single, “Gulf Coast Girl”, which also features Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffett, Mac McAnally and Lukas Nelson. Buffett and Mac McAnally wrote the song for Jones.
“‘Cause I’m a gulf coast girl, partial to the warm winds and salty water/ Gulf coast girl, I got a little mermaid in me,” Jones sings in the chorus of the song.
“I am so honored to sing this song that two of my heroes, mentors and friends — Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally — wrote for me,” she told Billboard.
The singer-songwriter added, “Mac introduced me to the Nashville studio musician scene back in 2012, and Jimmy took me under his wing last year on tour with his band and the Eagles.”
Jones said adding Nelson and Chesney made for a truly amazing summer collaboration.
“My introduction to Caroline was at a benefit concert we were doing a few years back in Tallahassee after Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc on Florida,” Buffett said. “I had heard really good things about her, from friends, but was taken aback when I watched her open the show.”
“Mac McAnally and I were interested in working with her and wanted to come up with a ‘feel good’ song that would do the same on beaches and lakes thousands of miles away from the beach I grew up on,” he added.
Jones is currently on the road with Zac Brown Band. She previously went on tour as part of Kenny Chesney’s Songs for the Saints Tour.
