Jack White‘s Third Man Records has announced the launch of a full-color quarterly magazine, called Maggot Brain, the title of Funkadelic‘s classic 1971 album.

The magazine, priced at $12, is edited by noted Detroit music scribe Mike McGonigal.

The December/January/February issue is available now, and yearly four-issue subscriptions can be purchased online.

The debut edition features stories on late Gits singer Mia Zapata, Swell Maps, Alice Coltrane, late cult singer Daniel Johnston, J. Dilla, Malls Across America, “Vibrant Detroit Sign Painting,” and “How To Resist Ice.”

The publishers say that the more than 100-page magazine is “packed with phenomenal content,” including art, music, literature, and unpublished archival stuff.
