I’d say frozen for French fries if I’m honest with you, but I’m probably going to get shot!

During Saturday’s show, James accidentally let slip his preferred way of making French fries, after a viewer requested the easiest recipe.

But to fans surprise, his honest answer wasn’t what they were expecting.

“Pat sent us this message for the perfect French fry,” he began before dropping his secret.

There was a brief pause before he admitted: “I’d say frozen for French fries if I’m honest with you, but I’m probably going to get shot!” he spluttered, as his face flushed red.

After a swift recovery, the ITV chef explained a quick and easy way to start making the perfect chip, but noted the origin of the potato is really important.

“It’s really the quality of the potatoes and where you buy the potatoes from, the type of potato as well,” he explained.

“It’s really trail and error with your potatoes if you want a classic French fries.

“But I always personally go for frozen ones,” he grinned.

And while his career isn’t built on using frozen foods, one guilty pleasure isn’t a big deal.

Recently, the host revealed that throughout his TV work he has been offered chances to front “wellness shows” and “health cookbooks”.

The TV chef admitted he has turned down certain gigs because he felt he wasn’t being “honest with himself”.

Speaking in a new interview, the former BBC star opened up about following his own path and believes he wouldn’t be where he is today if he hadn’t been selective about his choices.

“I live by the motto, ‘Believe in what you believe in,’ and I don’t think I’d be where I am today if it wasn’t for that,” James told Prima magazine.

But he admitted it hasn’t always been easy.

“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked to do a wellness show or a health cookbook where I stand on the scales and six months later I’ve lost five stone.

“They all say, ‘You’re the prime candidate.’ Er, thanks!”

  • James Martin mocked by viewers over unusual cooking habit

James admitted he loves butter and cream and refuses to cut the delicacies out of his life.

He addded: “The truth is, if I stopped eating butter and using cream and cut out all the good stuff, I’d be miserable – and I wouldn’t believe in what I was doing. It’s not who I am or who I’ve ever been.”

The British TV personality has previously opened up about his weight loss journey, as he sports a dramatically slimmer figure, dropping a whopping 1st 7lb weight loss in May 2018.

Saturday Morning continues Saturday’s at 9.25am on ITV.
