Katy Perry collapses on American Idol after being overcome by a gas leak

There is major drama heading to American Idol this weekend as judge Katy Perry is laid out by a gas leak.

Sunday's episode will see the singer overcome by fumes before collapsing to the floor after the studio is evacuated.

The new series of American Idol is still at the auditions stage and with a potential performer readying to belt out a number, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are forced to stop the process as the gas leak becomes potentially dangerous.

Katy, 35, seems to suffer the worse out of them all and she exclaims: "Do you guys smell gas? It’s pretty intense."

Country music star Luke, 43, tells the show's producers: "We’re getting heavy propane."

Katy starts feeling a little woozy and says: "I have a slight headache from it. Oh it’s bad, it’s really bad."

Sirens are then heard in the background as emergency services rush to the studio as crew and contestants are evacuated from the building.

Luke informs viewers as they assemble outside: "This is not a joke, there really is a gas leak."

It is all too much for Katy though and she dramatically collapses to the floor after declaring: "I’m not feeling good."

It has been some start to the 18th season of the singing competition, with 70-year-old Lionel Richie already giving possibly the most brutal put down of the series.

He was in no mood to take prisoners as he spoke his mind, telling hopeful Nick Merico straight about his chances.

The singing legend was not forgiving, telling Nick: "I don't like you."

He then continued: "I’ve got to be honest with you, I don’t like you. And for some weird reason, it’s not sitting well with me.

"I don’t like your voice. I’m being very honest. I don’t like your attitude. And I don’t really think you’re going to make it in Hollywood.”

Don't worry about sugar coating the rejection there Lionel.
