Loose Women star slammed for insensitive post after Matthew Perrys death
Friends star Matthew Perry dies aged 54
Loose Women panelist Janet Street Porter has been slammed over a tweet she shared about Friends following the death of its beloved cast member Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing.
Following the news that the 54-year-old died after apparently drowning in his hot tub, Janet, 76, tweeted: “Am I the only person who has managed to live a fulfilling life without watching Friends?”
While many of her 83,000 followers agreed that they also hadn’t watched the show, some took issue with the tone and timing of the tweet.
One wrote: “An irrelevant post.”
A second added: “I am very surprised at your insensitivity.”

“Of course you won’t be. But you know that already,” a third typed. “I am wondering about the timing of your remarks?”
A fourth added: “I live a very fulfilling life and have watched friends several times! Weird tweet to someone dying so young!”
Another questioned: “Whether you have or not it makes no difference, but what is the point of this post and why do you find it necessary to say this?
“It called entertainment and everyone’s choices vary. As long as you feel better for letting us know?”
On Monday’s edition of Loose Women, Janet discussed the late Friends star’s death alongside her co-stars Brenda Edwards, Coleen Nolan and Christine Lampard.

Minutes into the show, Christine spoke of how the cast of the much loved sitcom were like “our friends” and how the programme had become a source of comfort.
She went on to say that the popular show had been translated into 104 languages, which prompted Brenda to add: “You say huge success, but there’s one of us who’s never even watched it… Janet.”
The revelation certainly took her co-stars by surprise as Christine exclaimed: “Literally not one frame!”
Pushed on her reasons why she chose not to watch it, Janet retorted: “I was busy living my life.”
She added: “I have lots of friends, just not those Friends,” and went on to question whether it was her age that led her to “missing the boat” with the series.
The journalist added that while she didn’t know Matthew as Chandler, she was full of admiration for his work with helping people with addiction, having battled his own demons.
Following the actor’s death, a coroner has issued a deferred death certificate while they await the results of toxicology tests.
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
