Piers Morgan skipped the National Television Awards 2021 despite being nominated for the Best Presenter gong last night, but this didn’t stop him from reacting to moments from the show. Before, during and after the event, he hit out at winners Ant and Dec, who scooped the award for the 20th time.

He has now also reacted to a video where boos could be heard as his nomination was announced.

Vernon Kay took to the stage to announce the nominations and winner for the Best Presenter category.

During the segment, a VT of Piers interviewing Matt Hancock on Good Morning Britain was shown as his name was shown.

The clip was swiftly met with a mixed reaction from the crowd, including boos and cheers.

Addressing the reaction, he wrote on Twitter: “Last night’s National Television Awards…

“Love the boos being drowned out by cheers… Ronaldo gets the same crowd reactions. #ntas.”

Many of his 7.9 million followers flocked to his post to comment.

One wrote: “You did say you’d be back on the telly soon… and there you are.”

A second commented: “Made me chuckle, they all love you really Piers.”

Others pointed out that the crowd may had been booing the ex Health Secretary.

Matt resigned back in June after he was caught breaking social distancing guidance by getting close to a colleague. He has since been replaced by Sajid Javid.

Piers also took a swipe at reigning Best Presenter champions Ant and Dec.

He told The Mirror: “If they had to do this individually, how would they get on? I think it’s actually cheating to do it as a pair.”

The father-of-four added he was “sick and tired” of seeing the double act win the award.

During his time on Good Morning Britain, Piers was known for havng heated debates with MPs, particularly over the coronavirus pandemic.

In his five years on the show, the 56-year-old was rarely out of the headlines for some of his controverisal views.

Piers’ time on the programme came to an end following comments he made about Meghan Markle back in March.

The presenter said he didn’t believe a word she and Prince Harry said during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In one of her revelations, the Duchess of Sussex said she suffered with her mental health and was refused help by the Palace.

Meghan and Harry also claimed that a member of the family had “concerns” about the colour of their son Archie’s skin.

Piers dismissed their accusations and sparked over 57,000 complaints, including one from Meghan.

Earlier this month, ITV was cleared by Ofcom, who rejected the complaints.

Addressing the reaction, the journalist said he “wasn’t really sure why I lost [my job] in the first place”.

He added Ofcom had “emphatically endorsed my right to not believe what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were saying”.
