Musical theatre star Ruth Henshall, 53, spoke about her relationship with Prince Edward on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020. The actress spoke candidly about her time with the Queen’s youngest son, who she dated in the early 1990s, while chatting to fellow campmate Shane Richie.

The couple met when Ruthie was starring in Les Miserables and he was working for Andrew Lloyd Webber as a production assistant.

Speaking about her time with the royal, she cheekily told her co-star: “[Russell Watson] performed at Buckingham Palace, you sang in the gardens, I s****ed in the bedrooms.”

She went on to say that he was a “lovely bloke” and she “genuinely fell in love with him”.

Discussing the conversation on spin off show I’m A Celebrity… The Daily Drop, Lady Colin Campbell, who has penned several books about the Royal Family, discussed Ruthie’s comments.

Seemingly making a dig at popular Netflix drama The Crown, she said: “It proves that the characterisation that the Royal Family is being portrayed, in a series that we will not mention by name, is completely inaccurate.

“There’s all sort of nonsense about the ‘Balmoral Test’, which has never taken place.”

An episode in the current series showed Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (played by Gillian Anderson) and Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) visiting Balmoral Castle for the first time and taking the so-called “Balmoral Test” to see how well they followed social protocols.

Lady C continued: “Ruthie has proven that the Royals go out of their way at Balmoral to make their guests feel comfortable.

“Also it has to be said that Prince Edward is a really great guy,” the 71-year-old stated.

Melvin Odoom, a fellow guest on the show, added: “I went to Buckingham Palace once and was told I couldn’t take pictures. To find out that Ruthie was flirting with a Royal in there and got busy in there…”

“That’s because he lived there. He had his own suite of rooms there,” Lady C responded.

“They live there, they can do pretty much what they want.”

New episodes of I’m A Celebrity… The Daily Drop hosted by Vick Hope will be on the ITV Hub daily.
