Sam Aston and wife Briony’s gender reveal – ‘We’re too impatient to wait’

Sam Aston and his wife Briony enlisted OK! to share the news that they are expecting another child – a sibling for their two children Sonny, three, and 18 month old Daisy.

The Coronation Street actor is also pleased to reveal the gender of their unborn a child.

“It’s a girl!” Sam told us.

“Briony had a blood test so we found out then. I know it’s not for everybody finding out the gender before the birth, but we’re too impatient. We like to know!”

This gender news comes as the couple share they were actually expecting twins before sadly losing one of the babies to 'Vanishing Twin Syndrome', which they found out during an early scan.

Corrie's Sam Aston‘s wife Briony pregnant and gender reveal – ‘We lost a twin – it’s bittersweet’

“It was very bittersweet – that’s exactly how I’d word it," Briony, 28, who had previously opened up about going through two miscarriages after the birth of Daisy, said.

“We were excited and thankful, because we always wanted a baby that was healthy.

"Then we started thinking, ‘We could have had two… Will the living twin always wonder, “What if?” and ‘Will they feel lonely?’ We found ourselves questioning what could have been, while feeling grateful for what we’ve got.”

Chesney Brown actor Sam, 30, was “shocked” to learn that they’d been expecting twins.

“At first, you’re thinking, ‘What would it have been like to have twins? Would we have had one of each, a boy and a girl?’ Like Briony says, it’s definitely bittersweet, but we just feel very grateful that the other baby is absolutely fine.”

In terms of finding out they're expecting a girl, for Briony, the news came as a surprise.

“I had a strong feeling that it was a boy, right from the very beginning – I was so convinced,” she said.

“We even had a boy’s name all ready. So to then find out that it’s a girl, it makes me feel that maybe the twin we lost was a boy."

Thinking ahead to their baby girl's arrival in Spring, Briony is planning another home birth.

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be,” Briony admitted. “That’s exactly what I plan to do. We’ll see how it goes.”

“With Daisy, it was very straightforward and lovely, just experiencing the birth like that,” Sam added.

“It felt really calm, being at home. Afterwards, we had some toast and a cup of tea and then we were back in our own bed. It was very euphoric. So, it would be nice to do that again. It was lovely seeing how happy it made Briony too."
