The Steph’s Packed Lunch star was visibly devastated to be losing 52-year-old Vivek to rival channel NewsUK, but wished him well on his journey nevertheless. Steph McGovern, who tweets using the handle @StephLunch, broke the news to her almost 420,000 followers as Vivek grinned for the camera while eating, as the show’s name might suggest, a plate of lunch.
Vivek’s a top class producer/boss/friend
From celebrity tantrums and storm-outs to tense and tearful topics being discussed live on air, 39-year-old Steph has weathered many a storm with her co-worker.
However he announced in November that he would be leaving the team to pursue new projects when 2022 came around.
Vivek’s decision will give him a chance to reunite with acid-tongued Piers Morgan, with whom he had spent time in the past.
He received a tweet from Piers after the news broke, simply stating: “Welcome aboard Vivek! Great to be working with you again.”

That might prove little consolation to Steph though, who admits that she will miss having him around.
Vivek has also tweeted revealing his fondness for the show, boasting last month when he discovered that Steph’s Packed Lunch had been shortlisted for Best Daytime Programme at the Broadcast Awards.
He also jokingly listed his career highlight: producing a show featuring guest Stephanie Matto, who claimed she could earn £30,000 per week by selling her farts.
Besides that bizarre story, in another, a tearful Katie Price opened up about her experiences with online trolls taking aim at her disabled son Harvey.
Then, back in the summer, Vivek and Steph no doubt experienced a heart-in-mouth moment when comedian Joe Lycett appeared to spectacularly lose his sense of humour live on air.
He seemed to take offence to one of Steph’s playful jibes referencing a photo of him, ripped his microphone off and stormed out just as she cut to an ad break.
The awkward moment left Steph forced to reveal simply: “He’s had to leave.”
However, Joe later revealed that the moment had all been part of an elaborate prank.
No doubt dicing with daily drama has only added to Steph and Vivek’s rapport, and it is unlikely to have damaged the affection audiences feel for the show, with viewing figures having approached almost 280,000 at one point in 2021.
After a lockdown slump the year before, the Channel 4 show seems to have recovered well, allowing Vivek to leave on a high note.
When the news was first announced, Steph had been quick to praise: “Vivek’s a top class producer/boss/friend, so I’m gutted he’s leaving.
“Thanks to him I work on a show I’m really proud of [and] have a fab team he’s built up to be one of best in the biz.
“He’s leaving us in really good shape.”
The Channel 4 presenter, who has also been a “retired” dancer, also offered Vivek a hearty congratulations on his “big new job”.
Vivek replied with affection: “You are a total dream. We have had the best time!
“You are brilliant and I’m so happy I’ll still get to hangout with you as a mate. I will right?! 😉 x
In spite of Vivek’s departure, perhaps it’s not the last fans will be hearing of this dynamic duo and their collaboration.
