Steph McGovern: Ex BBC star Bill Turnbull reacts to host’s ‘drunk’ remark amid ‘last’ show

Steph McGovern, 37, just wrapped up filming her “final lockdown” episode of The Steph Show which aired on Channel 4 on Friday. The former BBC Breakfast star later took to Twitter and stunned her followers, most notably ex co-star Bill Turnbull, 64.

Steph spoke candidly on the micro-blogging site, following her last lockdown episode and the VE celebrations.

In view of her 401,000 Twitter followers, she wrote: “I am drunk”.

Fans inundated the Channel 4 presenter with comments, after the cheeky post.

Another social media user joked: “Best stay off Twitter then Steph!”

“I have a feeling drunk Steph is a funny Steph,” another person tweeted.

While a third person added: “Ha! I’m loving your honesty!”

Steph’s admission comes after she wrapped up her final show while in lockdown yesterday.

The small-screen star recently announced The Steph Show will be postponed but will be back on air once the Leeds studio is complete and the lockdown is over.

Steph captured the final moments of the show being filmed from her home ahead of the episode.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: “On telly 15mins….. the final lockdown #TheStephShow @channel4 midday live, for the last time, from my house. (Soon to be launching from a studio).”

Steph previously explained the team’s decision to halt filming more episodes during the lockdown.

She wrote: “As much as I’ve loved doing a lockdown show at home I never expected it to go on this long.

“We’ve decided it’s time to have a break and give my family our home back.

“The proper programme will be launching when the Leeds studio is sorted, I may still be wearing slippers.”

Meanwhile, her former BBC Breakfast colleague previously reunited with the presenter on her Channel 4 programme via video link last month.

But, during his appearance on the show, Steph couldn’t resist bringing up a debate the pair have been having for a decade, which began when she joined BBC Breakfast eight years ago.

The northern presenter explained to fans that the pair used to clash about the pronunciation of particular words including the word “poor”.

“We fell out over this one,” she laughed as she showed viewers how she said it.

Disagreeing with her pronunciation, Bill replied: “P, double o, r, it’s one syllable only.”
