Strictly’s Amy Dowden received ‘tough love’ about hopes for children
Amy Dowden shaves her head amid cancer treatment
Amy Dowden has lifted the lid on her hopes for having children despite battling breast cancer.
The Welsh dancer was diagnosed with aggressive stage three cancer in May this year and was forced to pull out of the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Speaking to The Mirror, Amy has opened up about the “tough love” she got from her doctor when she asked about the potential for having children.
“She gave me tough love and said ‘what’s the point of these embryos if you’re not going to have chemo?'” Amy started.
“‘Because you won’t be around to have these babies anyway’.”

Amy underwent IVF treatment which is one of the several techniques available to help people with fertility issues.
The 32-year-old married her husband Ben in June 2022 and found a lump in her breast the day before she went on her honeymoon.
After being diagnosed in May, she later revealed that doctors had found “more tumours” and she would have to undergo chemotherapy.
Speaking about her diagnosis, she said on Instagram: “Hey all, I’ve got some news which isn’t easy to share. I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it.”
In August, Amy also had another health scare when she was struck down with sepsis.

Speaking to The Mirror in a different interview, she explained: “I just thought it was my reaction to chemo, but as it turned out, I had already got an infection.
“The doctors and nurses were telling me I had sepsis and that it was life-threatening, but I wasn’t taking it in.”
Thankfully, doctors were able to treat her after being taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday at 6.20pm.
