Strictly’s Layton Williams gets candid about dance experience after ‘fix row’
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie: Layton Williams stars in trailer
Layton Williams has compared his previous dance experience with his participation in Strictly Come Dancing to “a plumber trying to be an electrician.”
This comes after the BBC faced claims of a fix due to two of their 2023 contestants having previous professional dance experience.
The 28-year-old actor spoke to the press at a Strictly roundtable event ahead of his debut in the BBC ballroom, where he was asked about his previous dance endeavours.
He said: “Yeah, well, of course, there’s going to be moments that will feel more comfortable being in the rehearsal room and use and dancing and stuff like that.
“However, I can’t stress enough how different [it is]. It’s like a plumber trying to be an electrician. I don’t even know what them two things are, but it’s just not the same.”

He continued saying: “And if anything, sometimes I’m such a professional in the things that I do, when it comes to stuff that […] I should potentially be able to do, and everyone expects me to be able to do this, actually, it’s just some time for learning.
“So I don’t really know yet because I’ve not started, but come a couple of weeks, I might be like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m amazing’. Or I might be like, ‘Actually, you know what? Can we all just cool down?’”
“Let’s see. I’m excited for the ride,” he added. “And I’m excited to learn new things. So just swim into the deep end.”
Layton is an alumni of the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Previous Strictly contestants Kelly Brook and Pixie Lott also studied at the same performing arts school.

However, Layton also has West End experience, starring in Billy Elliot when he was just 12 years old, and later starring in the hit musical, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon, 39, is the second contestant who is causing a stir over past dance experience.
Angela danced with the O’Shea Irish Dance Company, where she performed internationally with the group.
At the exclusive press event, Layton was also asked what dance he was most excited to learn.
He responded, saying: “I think I’ll like the fast-paced stuff but it is nice each week to switch it up and give like light and shade and show different sides of your character.
“Obviously the actors as well but we’re really excited to really jump into the drama of whatever dance.”
He was also asked to share his opinion on the judges, stating: “At the end of the day, they’re giving you notes in order to make me better, so why am I going to push against that?
“We’re actors, we know how to take a correction and you want to be in the best position that you can be. And then hopefully the next week, in notes on your feet or whatever, you can come back and make sure that they’re together.”
