Strictly’s Les Dennis dropped Nancy Xu in dress rehearsal hours before injury
Strictly: Les Dennis discusses feedback from Nancy Xu
Strictly Come Dancing pro Nancy Xu took a tumble after Les Dennis dropped her in the dress rehearsal, it has been revealed – and she later went on to display a bloody injury in front of the nation.
Strictly’s 2018 finalist Joe Sugg revealed all during his official Access All Areas podcast on BBC Sounds, confiding: “Let’s just say the dress rehearsal For Les didn’t quite go as planned.”
He continued: “Right at the end of the dress run there was a dip at the end and Les did the dip and sort of followed through with it and they both ended up on the floor laughing.”
Despite the moment of mirth, Joe admitted that he thought “everyone” who witnessed the accident had been holding their breath.
Later, viewers caught sight of 32-year-old Nancy clutching a bleeding neck as she bravely made her way up the staircase to be interviewed on TV, in spite of her probable pain.

After her first ever live performance was screened, she dabbed at the blood trickling down her neck and chin while receiving feedback from host Claudia Winkleman.
To make matters worse, she and Les – who is set to turn 70 next month – received low scores on the week one leaderboard.
However, Nancy was stoic in the face of her woes, taking to Instagram to tell her more than 62,000 followers: “That’s week one done. Hope we did bring a bit of smile on your face.”
She could also be seen in one video update urging a perturbed-looking Les not to be nervous because “enjoying it is more important”.

One follower described Les as “the best ‘worst dancer'” the show has had in several years, after catching the Family Fortunes star’s tango performance.
He had danced to a rendition of The Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me?’ before he and Nancy were awarded a score of just two out of 10 from judge Craig Revel-Horwood.
However, the divisive performance was praised by head judge Shirley Ballas, who described it as “spectacular”.
Fans later questioned why she was bleeding heavily from her neck, with a couple wondering if it was her earring that had contributed to the injury.
@hannahsewell92 took to Instagram to rally against some of the comments the pair had received, urging: “Cut them some slack!
“I think people don’t realise the nerve it takes to actually learn a dance and then get up and perform it in front of millions, you absolute jokers,” she continued, reminding the world that it was “only week one”.
@ontochapter2 chimed in: “We are all very proud of you Les. There are not a lot of people who can get up in front of all those people and do what you have done tonight. You are a 10 for us.”
