Anne Hegerty, 62, terrified a pair of thieves who tried to run off with her shopping bags while she was in a car park. The star, who is known as The Governess on the ITV show, was able to evade being robbed by the duo after unleashing a foul-mouthed tirade.

Anne revealed the thieves were so stunned by her words that they threatened to report her to the police for swearing.

The quizzer didn’t hold back when she spotted the pair “trying to make off with her shop”.

Anne recalled: “The car was parked around the corner, and I came back at one point to find this rather rough-looking couple trying to make off with my shop.

“I yelled, ‘F***ing put them down, f***ing give me them back. They’re not f***ing yours.’

“They didn’t recognise me but they didn’t actually expect that sort of language.”

Anne admitted she was also less than impressed when the duo hit back by saying they would report her for her bad language.

However, the thieves’ threats were clearly empty, as they eventually dropped the bags and fled.

The television personality divulged: “I told them, ‘F***ing do it. F***ing tell them, I don’t f***ing care’ and they basically dropped the bags and ran.

“It was nice to channel that indignation and get my stuff back, especially as I know plenty of people who would have hidden around the corner quaking in fear, which is a bit pathetic when it’s a couple of crackheads.

“Frankly, I could take them,” the brave presenter added to The Sun.

It comes after Anne revealed that lockdown saved her from being on the verge of a “breakdown” last year.

The quizzer opened up on having “sobbing fits” in her car as she felt overwhelmed by work.

She was then able to recover when the country went into lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Anne explained to Express.co.uk: “By the time lockdown came in, I was so burnt out, I’d had something like three colds in the space of five months because I was rushing around from place to place and suddenly having sobbing fits in the car.”

She added: “There was just so much on my plate, there were so many things I was planning on.

“I look now at my diary for the beginning of last year and I think, ‘Well, you kind of were about to have a breakdown.'”

Last year The Chase star’s comments about how much she was enjoying lockdown divided fans.

Speaking on This Morning with Phillip Schofield, the ITV host admitted that she actually enjoyed not having to leave her home, apart from to get food.

She told the breakfast show presenter: “I have loved lockdown. I don’t want it to end, except we’d like to get back in the studio.

“I’m really liking not having to go out. I’m only going shopping once every 10 days or so. It’s been brilliant.”
