Queen Elizabeth certainly isn’t short of children and grandchildren to visit her and begrudgingly accept Werther’s Originals from her purse (assuming she behaves even a little bit like a regular grandmother, of course). But it’s worth noting she’s also terribly fond of her many nieces and nephews. In particular, the queen’s favorite is Lady Sarah Chatto, a lesser-known member of the royal family who’s nonetheless gaining traction thanks to her impressive showing in the documentary Elizabeth at 90: A Family Tribute.
As Hello! notes, Chatto enamored herself to viewers thanks to her “down-to-earth nature,” and obvious love and respect for the queen. The daughter of Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, Lady Sarah is 21st in line to the throne so it’s highly unlikely we’ll see her sitting up there in our lifetimes. However, despite her clear desire to stay under the radar, the happily married mother of two is a fascinating person in her own right, whose close relationship with the royal family encourages further study.
Lady Sarah Chatto is an established artist and dedicated mother
Lady Sarah Chatto is married to Daniel Chatto, with whom she shares two sons named Samuel and Arthur. Queen Elizabeth reportedly “adores” her niece, who frequently joins HRH on trips to Craigowan Lodge, in Scotland (via Hello!). “They are hugely at ease in each other’s company. …They share a sense of loyalty, fun, duty and the ridiculous,” an insider informed the Daily Mail.
Their relationship has only grown closer since Princess Margaret passed in 2002. Lady Sarah honors her mother by wearing her statement pearl earrings (pictured above) to public events (via Hello!). Otherwise, she’s closest to Prince Charles, even serving as a bridesmaid in his wedding to the late Princess Diana. Chatto is also Prince Harry’s godmother.
Lady Sarah was raised in Kensington Palace alongside older brother David, and was educated in Hampshire, showing a particular talent for art. The Sun notes she was subsequently educated at the Camberwell School of Art which led to many successful exhibitions of her work over the years. She now serves as VP of the Royal Ballet.
Lady Sarah was working as a wardrobe assistant on movie Heat and Dust when she met her husband, Daniel who was an actor in the film. They married in a low-key ceremony, in London, in 1994, and had two children. The couple currently resides in Kensington (via Hello!).
