Drake has joined forces with Live Nation Canada to launch History, a new live-entertainment venue in the top-shelf rapper’s hometown of Toronto, according to Variety.
Slated to open by the end of 2021, the “versatile and intimate” venue will have a 2,500-person capacity and plans to host 200 concerts and events each year.
“Some of my most memorable shows were playing smaller rooms like History,” Drake said in a statement to the outlet. “I wanted to take those memories and what I learned to create an incredible experience for both the artists and the fans.”
Inside, the performance venue features a convertible general admission area along with reserved seating set-ups for a range of events, including concerts, live entertainment, galas and community programs. The space will announce its inaugural events as well as career opportunities in the coming weeks and months.
“History will offer guests up-close experiences with their favorite artists that are unrivaled in Toronto,” explained Riley O’Connor, chairman of Live Nation Canada. “We take pride in and expect History to become an important part of the community.”
“We saw an opportunity to bring Toronto a great new venue, and we have so much gratitude and respect for Drake teaming up with us to bring it to life in the best way possible,” said Michael Rapino, President and CEO of Live Nation Entertainment.
History has been in the works for over three years, and construction is scheduled to finish later this summer. The new venue is located in the east end of the city, in the Beaches neighborhood at 1663 Queen Street East.
In another artist business venture, Snoop Dogg has joined Def Jam Recordings as a senior strategic advisor.
