James Cameron Gives 'Avatar 3' Update, "Very Hectic Two Years of Post Production Right Now"
In a recent press conference in New Zealand, director James Cameron gave fans an update on Avatar 3. Currently still in post-production, Cameron calls the process hectic.
Cameron told 1News chief correspondent John Campbell, “We’re into a very hectic two years of post-production right now.” He also confirmed the third sequel’s release date, “So it will be Christmas of 2025.” Earlier in June, Disney announced that the upcoming three sequels in the franchise will be pushed back, extending it into 2031. Originally, Cameron’s additional Avatar films release two years apart from one another with the third expected to release in 2024. But now Avatar 3 is opening on December 19, 2025, Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029 and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. Based on the current timeline, the last film will be released 22 years after the original one.
Cameron also teased that the third film will will introduce a more antagonistic race of Na’vi. He also promised that all the remaining films will be shot in New Zealand and he plans to make films in the country “indefinitely,” revealing he will be come a New Zealand citizen in 2024.
