Lego Piranha Plant is the latest Nintendo set for adult collectors
A 9 inch tall Piranha Plant is the perfect accompaniment to the giant Lego Bowser set, as even more video game sets are rumoured.
You’ve not really made it in the pop culture world until you’ve got your own Lego set, which means the Piranha Plant from the Super Mario universe is about to take a step up in the world, in terms of fame and exposure.
It’s the latest in a long line of Nintendo themed Lego sets, most of which revolve around special Bluetooth minifigures and the idea of creating your own interactive courses and levels.
Those sets are primarily aimed at children but there are also a number of more complex and expensive models aimed at older fans, including a brick-built NES, an amazing transforming ? Block, an animatronic Bowser, and now the iconic Piranha Plant.
The Piranha Plant would clearly display very nicely next to Bowser, but it works on its own as well, with a posable head, mouth, stalk, and leaves.
There’s also two brick-built coins that come with it, which we don’t think we’ve seen before in any of the other sets.
The model is made up of 540 Lego pieces and will be released on November 6 for £57.99, from Lego stores and Lego.com.
Although there have been dozens of Mario sets released now, aimed at various age groups, there’s still no sign of Lego making anything based on other Nintendo properties.
There’re rumours of both a one-off Legend Of Zelda set and a whole range based on Animal Crossing, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
There’s already a range of Sonic The Hedgehog toys though and more are planned for next year.
Lego has also been hinting at a collaboration with Fortnite, although whether it’s toys or an in-game promotion for the game is not clear. Considering there were previously a number of sets based on Overwatch, perhaps it’s both.
As for actual video games, there’s rumoured to be a new Harry Potter game in development, in the same style as Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
There’s also been repeated rumours of some kind of Lego football game, created by 2K, which has turned up on an age ratings board and seems to have its own tie-in sets, but which has never been officially acknowledged.
