LEGO Unveils New 'Dune' Atreides Royal Ornithopter Set
Ahead of Dune: Part Two‘s premiere in March of next year, LEGO is touching down in Arakkis with its first-ever build inspired by the Dune universe: the Atreides Royal Ornithopter. Under LEGO’s name, the dragonfly-inspired aircraft, made famous in Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, will feature 1,369 pieces, with functional blades that flap and retract on a 180-degree rotation.
The build, which measures nine inches tall, 22 inches long and 31 inches wide, includes foldable landing gear and eight new LEGO minifigures inspired by the franchise’s key characters: Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Leto Atreides, Liet Kynes, Duncan Idaho and Baron Harkonnen.
“We were fully enraptured by the epic Dune when it released – so our return to Arakkis in Dune: Part Two was the perfect opportunity to bring this iconic craft to life in LEGO brick form,” said Michael Psiaki, design lead at the LEGO Group. “Builders can now recreate this impressive ship with amazing detail, whether to proudly display or recreate their favorite scenes from the epic Dune saga at home.”
The LEGO Icons Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter is now available for pre-order online, and it will officially go on sale on February 1, 2024. The set will be priced at 164.99 USD. Take a closer look at the design in the gallery above.
