London's Ezra Collective Secures First Jazz Win at 2023 Mercury Prize

Every year, the Mercury Prize honors an individual or group making strides in the British music scene. 28-year-old artist Little Simz took home the award in 2022 for her full-length release, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. Last night, London-based band Ezra Collective was awarded the 2023 Mercury Prize at Hammersmith Apollo for its soulful blend of jazz, funk, and Afrobeat.

Ezra Collective secured the first jazz win in Mercury Prize history for Where I’m Meant to Be. The brand’s second studio album celebrates life in all forms, defined by a hybrid sound that takes fun in its stride.

Composed of drummer Femi Koleoso, bassist TJ Koleoso, keyboardist Joe Armon-Jones, trumpeter Ife Ogunjobi, and saxophonist James Mollison, Ezra Collective took the stage in gratitude and thanked their friends, family, fans, and management who have carried them toward success.
