Martine Rose and Jonathan Anderson Lead the 2023 Fashion Awards Winners
The annual British Fashion Awards shut down London last night, welcoming star-studded guests into Kensington’s Royal Albert Hall. The historic venue was opened to the likes of Skepta, Little Simz, and Lewis Hamilton, staging an exquisite red carpet attended by leading fashion talent.
The British Fashion Council continues to celebrate outstanding UK talent, honoring the year’s leading creatives after sunset. While paying tribute to great designers, including Dame Vivienne Westwood, the British Fashion Awards looked to impactful personalities currently leading international fashion.
Jonathan Anderson took home the largest prize, recognized with the Designer of the Year Award for his shape-shifting collections at LOEWE and JW Anderson. Most recently, Anderson cemented designs in clay at London Fashion Week, while LOEWE’s Anagram logo is 2023’s reigning emblem. Ferragamo‘s Maximilian Davis is up next, winning the British Womenswear Designer Award for revamping the Italian label with masterful tailoring and clean-cut silhouettes.
The British Menswear Designer Award went to Martine Rose following her sold-out collaborations with Nike and recent appointment as Clarks‘ first-ever Guest Creative Director. She spearheaded international footwear trends throughout Fashion Month while closing the year with a beer-infused Stella Artois partnership. Earlier this year, the BFC announced an all-new emerging designer category, celebrating fresh fashion movements by rising creatives. Corteiz and Saul Nash were up for the prize, finally gifted to Bianca Saunders for menswear, while Chopova Lowena‘s Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena received the womenswear correspondent.
Finally, Bedford-born designer Connor Ives recalled his significant impact on international fashion with the BFC Foundation Designer Award, succeeded by industry-leading model Paloma Elsesser for Model of the Year. Charlotte Tilbury, Sarah Mower, Sarah Burton, Joe Casely-Hayford, Sam Smith, Edward Enninful, Michaela Coel, and Campbell Addy were credited with inventive awards that outlined their successful careers throughout the night.
