MrBeast Loses "Deez Nutz" Legal Battle Dee’s Nuts
According to a report, MrBeast has lost his “Deez Nutz” legal battle with Jacksonville gourmet peanut company Dee’s Nuts. Earlier this year, the popular YouTuber was hit with a lawsuit from Florida-based businessman Brian Ditore who accused that the Feastables chocolate brand was infringing on his trademark with its “Deez Nutz” flavor name.
Noting that the names are “confusingly similar and phonetically equivalent,” Ditore named his company as an homage to his late grandmother’s “comedic flair” back in 2012. Currently, Dee’s Nut products are now sold in 34 states.
“Millions of people on the internet have come to use the phrase ‘deez nuts’ as an irreverent way to interject humor or sarcasm into or end a conversation,” said the Feastables’ lawyer. “In fact, ‘deez nutz’ ultimately landed in the Urban Dictionary and is defined as a euphemism and slang term.” MrBeast’s legal team also noted that the term is derived from Dr. Dre’s 1992 album The Chronic.
On December 6, a judge in the U.S. District Court granted a permanent injunction against Feastables, effectively prohibiting the use of “Deez Nutz” on its products. As of writing, Feastables is still selling its Deez Nutz chocolate bars.
