Sufjan Stevens Gets “A Running Start” on New Cut From Forthcoming LP ‘Javelin’
Sufjan Stevens has continued rolling out his tenth studio album, Javelin. Out for release on Friday, October 6, the project is slated to follow 2021’s Convocations, a sprawling effort of 49 instrumental songs.
The latest track from the album is “A Running Start,” adding on to the previously released singles, “So You Are Tired” and “Will Anybody Ever Love Me?”
“So now we have a running start / My body moves in mystic ways,” Stevens sings on the new song. “I cross my arms to shield my heart / As everything turnst into waves.”
The singer recently revealed that he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune condition that targets the nervous system, and had briefly lost mobility in his body. After beginning physical rehab, he told fans he was slowly regaining his abilities.
“It’s a slow process, but they say I will ‘recover,’ it just takes a lot of time, patience, and hard work,” he wrote in a post published to Tumblr. The singer also noted that he had to pause any promotional events for Javelin and as of yet, there aren’t any plans for him to perform live.
Sufjan Stevens’ Javelin is out in full on Friday, October 6.
