Chelsea Handler realized she had to take better care of her mental health after experiencing a scare in February while on her “Vaccinated and Horney” comedy tour.

“I had a hospital scare after a show in Seattle a couple months ago. I had this cardiomyopathy, which means, like, an adrenaline shot to the heart,” Handler, 47, told E! News in an interview published Thursday.

Cardiomyopathy is a disease that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body, according to the Mayo Clinic. The condition can potentially lead to heart failure.

The former “Chelsea Lately” host said the issue was ongoing and she just hadn’t noticed.

“I was like, ‘Was this an instance, or was this building?’ And the doctor says, ‘Well, it’s an instance, but you’ve basically been very stressed for a long period of time, and you probably did not recognize that.’ And I was like, “Oh, s–t,’” she recalled.

Handler said her doctor could sense that she takes herself too seriously and should practice what she preaches about loosening up.

“[The doctor] goes, ‘I don’t know a lot about you, but isn’t your whole shtick that you don’t take yourself too seriously?’ And I went, ‘Yeah …’ And he goes, ‘Well, then you should start taking your own advice because you’re taking yourself too seriously.’

“And I thought, ‘God, you’re right. What am I doing here? I’m stressed out so much that I landed in the hospital?’”

Handler had to cancel some comedy shows at the time but announced she was doing “OK.” She is doing better health-wise these days.

“I’m fine now. But I was like, ‘Good advice: “Practice what you preach.”‘ It was a good reminder to let everything go,” she said.

And her love life is also flourishing. The comedian shared that she and boyfriend Jo Koy are in a great place and that he has not done anything to annoy her enough to break things off, unlike her past relationships.

“Jo was the first person in my life who I didn’t want to leave. He was the first man, romantically, in a long time that didn’t annoy me,” she told E! “That’s been my MO with men always is that they don’t know when to leave or they don’t know when to stop talking.

“I always felt like ‘Nope, this isn’t right, this isn’t it.’ And I would cut things off right away as soon as I felt that. So, to have a slow burn where I was hanging out with Jo for a year before anything transpired was something I had never experienced.”
