They almost reenacted “Pinocchio.”
Two California whale watchers got a closer look than perhaps intended when they were nearly swallowed by a whale, as seen in this shocking video.
“I still have an adrenaline rush!” Julie McSorley, told Fox News of the incident, which occurred Monday while she and her kayaking partner Liz Cottriel were observing humpback whales 30 feet off Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo.
McSorley initially thought she was a safe distance from the mammoth mammals. Then, all of a sudden, “a large bait ball came up around us followed by two whales which lifted us out of the water and tipped us over,” McSorley wrote above a harrowing Facebook clip of the Bible-evoking encounter.
Footage shot by a fellow whale watcher shows the colossal cetacean seemingly engulfing the yellow watercraft in its mouth before spitting it out, causing onlookers to cry out in shock.
“The whale was in my face, literally,” said Cottriel, who recounted having the bizarre inclination to “push the whale out of the way.”
“It was the weirdest thought,” she told Fox. “I’m thinking, ‘I’m dead. I’m dead.’ I thought it was gonna land on me. Next thing I know, I’m under water.”
