‘I was raised Amish – we didn’t use toilet paper or indoor plumbing’
A woman, who grew up in a strict Amish community, has shocked social media users with her upbringing.
Lizzie Ens, who is open with her followers about her Amish upbringing, claims toilet paper was considered a 'luxury item,' compared to priorities such as food and clothing.
But if that wasn't shocking enough – she also said her family didn't have indoor plumbing either. So when nature called, Lizzie would have to walk to an outhouse – even if it was cold outside – and use crumbled up pieces of newspaper or magazines to wipe herself.

In the clip, which has gained more than 34,000 likes, she explained: "Our bathrooms were not bathrooms, they were outhouses because we didn't have indoor plumbing. We didn't have any running water inside or anything like that.
"We had outhouses and so we needed to go to the bathroom. It was outside. So imagine having to wake up in the middle of the night. It's cold, it's freezing.
"You have to get up and get all bundled up, go outside. I still have all these memories of having to go outside in the middle of the winter when it's so cold, so snowy, and you have to get up and go to the bathroom.
"But let's talk about toilet paper. We did not use toilet paper. This was considered a luxury when I was growing up. I don't ever remember having toilet paper.
"We would take any kind of newspaper, any kind of like magazines, anything like that, and we would take the paper and like, just rip it and cut it or rip it and make it into like little squares and then this is what we use to wipe."
