There’s certainly truth to the adage that dogs are man’s best friend.
Our doggo pals are not only fiercely loyal, they can also be good for practical reasons – such as providing security.
But one dog owner has found an even more convenient thing for his pooch to do – fetch him beers.
Boone the Labrador not only grabs beer for his owner, Brent Kramer, he also recycles all the plastic bottles and metal cans when they’re empty.
He is also a quick learner and has even been trained to shut the fridge door behind him after he gets the cans out.
It’s not just beer either, Boone also recycles water bottles, removing the cap with his teeth and placing it in the bin.
Owner Brent enjoys teaching Boone all the tricks and seeing all the new things the doggo can pick up.
The 28-year-old optometrist from Pikeville, Kentucky, hopes to teach other dog owners how they can get their pet’s obedience levels down to a T.
‘It took lots of training,’ said Brent.
‘It started with having him shut the door after potty breaks. Then I started building on that and had him start getting me beers.
‘It’s been a lifetime of trying to stimulate his brain and teach him something new. He finally mastered it last year.’
According to Brent, the key to training a dog is positive, treat-heavy reinforcement.
Brent added: ‘People always ask why he looks like he’s having so much fun. It’s because he knows he’s getting a treat at the end.
‘He’s about the most spoiled dog you’ll ever see. As long as it’s not 17 people saying it at once, he’ll get a beer for anyone.
‘He’s even done it when I’m in the shower. He’ll even close the fridge door himself.’
Brent says he plans to start making videos to teach other dog owners how to train their pups to fetch beer.
