List of old banger cars that may have doubled in value – from Corsa to Renault

Everyone wants a hot ride, but the cost can limit your chances of having one.

Car prices are high at the moment, which means a lot of drivers are sticking with their old, trusty vehicles. But, according to online car marketplace Auto Trader, they may soon be able to make a little cash out of it.

This is because a few old bangers are now estimated to be worth a lot more than you'd expect. Some treasured vehicles – such as the classic Vauxhall Corsa – has actually doubled in price, with a 2004 version of the car being worth up to 94.4% more than it was just four years ago,

In a nutshell, if you snapped up a Corsa for a reasonable £1,136 before the Covid-19 pandemic, you could make an impressive £2,197 if you sold it today. Fords have also shot up in price.

People can also make a little money on Volkswagens and – as for Renaults – you could also be quid's in if you hold onto it a little longer. You may have thought your car has seen better days, but it turns out having an old model isn't such a bad thing either all.

If you're clever with your choices over the next few months then you could earn yourself a lot of extra money.

Auto Trader's editorial director Erin Baker told LadBible: "Some nostalgia trends just leave you asking why? But there’s nothing confusing about the appeal of cars from the noughties.

"They’re simple, reliable, and remind working Brits of when they fell in love with driving. While you might not think your car is old enough to be a classic, it may hold a hidden value – so don’t view it as another junk item – save that disdain for your oversized circular belts and bootcut jeans."

After the popular Corsa, the Vauxhall Astra has also gone up in value. The car was owned by many parents during the early noughties, as it's quite a spacious vehicle.

If you snapped one up back in 2019, you'd probably have spent around £1,069, but now it can be flogged for just £2 short of £2,000.

Meanwhile, the Renault Megane – which dates back to 2002– hit the scene following the hyped up release of the memorable "shaking that ass" advert. During which, the manufacturer proudly flaunted the car's bottom end.

If you still have one, and are planning to sell, you could get a hefty £1,182, even though you probably bought it for the average price of £1,043. It doesn't seem a massive difference, but it's still works out as the price of two plane tickets to Spain.

The Ford Focus has also risen by 74.8% in comparison to its original price, as it's worth £1,863 now. Back in 2019, it came in at the average price of £1,066.

Meanwhile the Peugeot 307 was only worth £979 at the time, but it can now be traded in for as much as £1,678.

You can also get a few bob for the much-loved Ford Fiesta, which is now worth 45.8% more than it's original price. Now it can be sold for £1,70, whereas it would have been flogged for only £1,171 back in 2019.

The Volkswagan Golf could also now go for as much as £2,434, even though its former average price was only £1,766 a few years back.
