Brazilian butt lifts are often considered to be the "world's most dangerous cosmetic procedure".

But that hasn't stopped people from getting them done, research from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reveals. In 2021 alone, there was a staggering 520,000 booty ops – an increase of 40.5% from four years before.

They are commonly known as BBLs and they involve fat being extracted from well-padded parts of the body so it can be injected into the bum. Some customers have described it as excruciating – even going so far as to say it was “hellish and more painful than childbirth”.

Celebrities like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian helped make it a popular trend. But the death rate is alarming, with The Aesthetic Surgery Journal concluding that it was somewhere between one in 2,351 and one in 6,214.

It is believed to have led to more deaths than any other cosmetic procedure – and one victim was British woman Melissa Kerr who died after flying to Turkey to have it done. She was only 31 when fat taken from her body entered a vein and blocked her pulmonary artery in November 2022.

Despite the horrifying example above and the grim statistics, some women (and men) are willing to take the risk to achieve the perfect behind.

Below, we hear from some of them about why they wanted to transform their appearance, regardless of the potential consequences.

    Dolly Simpson

Dolly and her twin Daisy splashed out more than £140,000 on plastic surgery to look close to identical. They had a boob job and nose job done on the same day but Dolly, 26, went further with a BBL.

And speaking to the Daily Star for our My Colourful Life series, she spoke of her family’s fears.

The racy model, from Stockton-on-Tees, said: “They are very worried about us becoming botched or us overdoing it with our health. They don’t want us to die during surgery.”

She said that the more she looks like a real-life doll then the more money she is able to make on OnlyFans. This financial temptation has influenced her decisions and the former dancer advised others not to follow her risky approach.

“One thing about me is I am less likely to do my research and I am more likely to go for it and go for the surgery,” she added.

Despite now being pleased with her aesthetic, the sisters still want more procedures in the future.

    Mary Magdalene

Mexican-born Canadian model Mary Magdalene has had three (not a typo, yes three) Brazilian butt lifts.

She rose to fame for wanting the “world’s fattest vagina” and she also spent around £81,000 on three boob jobs, cheek fat removal and hip fillers. But Mary, known for being a stripper, model and OnlyFans star, had a terrifying wake up call when one boob implant exploded.

The 30-year-old has since vowed never to get more surgery – saying it’s never losing your life to achieve a certain look.

She said: “I don’t want anymore surgery, I’m scared, I don’t wanna die right now.” And writing on Instagram, she added: “I want to tell everyone to be careful, but it almost doesn't matter because you never know when you're gonna die, so I don't know there's really a solution to be honest.

"The only solution is for everyone to just not have plastic surgery, but if you don't do that then there's always a chance you will die, so I mean just reduce your chance of dying by finding a good doctor with good reviews."

    Jessy Bunny

Jessy Bunny blames her parents for her plastic surgery obsession – saying it is all to do with not being able to play with dolls growing up.

While she wasn't permitted to have a Barbie during childhood, she has since spent £50,000 becoming one in real life.

The OnlyFans model, who lives in Mallorca, has had multiple bob jobs, a Brazilian butt lift, chin surgery, liposuction and countless lip fillers.

And speaking to Daily Star about why she is obsessed with procedures, she said: “My parents didn't allow me to play with Barbie, so I decided I wanted to become a Barbie. When I was browsing the internet in my early teen years I discovered these extreme 3D models of bimbos on pages like Deviant Art. And since then my dream has been to become such a doll.”

As for her relationship with her loved ones now, she added: “I don't have any contact with my family. They did break up every contact with me after I started becoming a bimbo.”

Jessy believes over 90% of all men love her BBL inspired aesthetic, describing it as the “perfect feminine body on steroids”.

    Rudy Villalobos

It’s not just women who go to extreme lengths to achieve dream curves. One bloke is LA makeup artist Rudy Villalobos, 27, who had bum injections in a shady hotel room so his rear could look more like Nicki Minjaj’s.

Explaining why he went down the BBL route rather than simply doing squats, he said: “I want my butt to be as big as Nicki Minaj's. I'm passionate about butt enhancements because I've never heard a song about small booties.

“Everyone wants to have a nice, perfectly round-shaped bubble butt whether they admit it or not. And, honestly, no matter how many squats you do, your butt does not grow as big. Exercise tightens and tones, but it doesn't give you that perfect round shape.”

Shrugging off potential risks, he added: “You can die, but I don't care. It was painful but worth it. Nothing will stop me from making my ass bigger. I plan to get more injections in my rear because I want it to get bigger and bigger.”

His next ambition is to get another Brazilian butt lift because the first one “wasn’t juicy enough”.

    Courtney Doyle

Glaswegian Courtney Doyle is another example of someone who embraced the operating table as opposed to the gym for a rounder derrière. She travelled 2,700 to Turkey for a BBL and she later took to TikTok to uncover the not so glamorous realities.

In one video, she showed herself with tubes of blood attached to her while struggling to walk.

Courtney, who is an OnlyFans model, said the first four days post surgery were the “toughest days” of her life.

She described it as like being on a “death bed”, telling her followers: “I think a lot of girls go through that journey and just post the results at six weeks, looking amazing. But not me, I looked like f*****g sh**t, I looked like death, I was on my deathbed. My face was green.

“My boyfriend is traumatised for life. It's not all good and fancy – you're gonna look like s**t and you’re gonna feel absolute pain. So getting the BBL and full body lipo, people that say it's bearable, are talking absolute s**t.”

Explaining on the pain, she added: “It is the worst f*****g pain I've ever experienced. I was peeing myself.

“It was probably up there with the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. In fact, you know what? Definitely up there.

“So girls, if you are wanting to get a BBL, honestly, one, have a good pain threshold, two, bring someone with you, and three, be prepared to have the absolute scare of your life, I’m not joking.”

Courtney was praised for her honesty but some still questioned her decision to have it.

One wrote: “People risking death for a big a***.” A second added: “I have absolutely no pain threshold but so badly want a BBL.” And a third said: “Girls are mental doing this.”
