Mum was sex worker – shed kill me if she knew I earned $1k a night on streets
A teenage sex worker turning tricks in the unforgiving Los Angeles red light district says her mum would be livid if she knew – despite being a former prostitute herself.
“She’d kill me,” Snow says. She explains her mum hid her prostitution from her, but made no secret of the fact that she was a stripper. Now, she’s following in mer mum’s footsteps: “Step by step, every step that she made…
“I guess I’m just the image of my mother,” Snow says, sadly. She told the Soft White Underbelly podcast that she had a tough start in life, growing up in a chaotic household, and adding that a friend of her mum’s sexually abused her when she was very young.

A man Snow describes as her “business manager” got her into prostitution, she says, even though she told him she didn’t want to do it. She says he’s also her boyfriend, and doesn’t believe he sleeps with the other girls in his stable.
“I’m the bottom b****,” she says. "It feels amazing. I don’t have to worry about anything.” Snow gives her boyfriend all the money she makes and he invests it for her. “It’s kind of getting invested into me in a way,” she adds, “with other stuff."
Snow says she makes $100 (just over £80) from each customer, which is the going rate on the street, and averages around $1000 a night. It’s easy money, she says: “All you have to do is five minutes and it’s $100.”

She has had some terrifying experiences in her three months on LA’s notorious Figueroa Street. “I got robbed, beaten and stripped by a pimp a month ago,” Snow revealed. “And I had to run way from a guy with a gun before. I’m grateful that I haven’t had more bad experiences but they’re going to come eventually
“It is what it is,” she adds. “I already knew what was coming when I signed up for this – I don’t carry a gun but,” she whispers, I will be getting one soon…”
Her customers are “great,” she says, although they frequently ask to use her hotel room and “get mad” when she says they can’t. Instead, she says, she ends up doing a lot of “car dates.”

Prostitute 'fantasised' over Pretty Woman – but reality of sex work was terrifying
Some men, she says, don’t even want sex at all, but just pay her to “hang out and talk”.
“It’s not just because they’re lonely, it’s because I need it too. There’ a lot of nice people out there that will just give me money because I look like I’m struggling. And that’s because I am.”
Many of them stay to persuade her to give up sex work and come and live with them: “All of them say they want to be with me but… just no.”
While she initially set out to just work on the streets for six months, Snow fears that she may have become trapped in the life: “I don’t know if it’s just going to be three months left,” she says sadly,” I fee like it’s going to be a lot longer.”
