The cheapest supermarket in the UK has been confirmed – and it's Aldi.
According to this month’s Which? report, Aldi takes the crown for the most cost effective shopping destination, with the average basket totalling at £76.77. Each month the consumer group analyses the price of 131 groceries and household essentials by various retailers to see how prices differ.
A recent survey found that Aldi is officially the cheapest supermarket at the moment, having knocked Lidl off the top spot. Now an average shop at Lidl comes in at £77.56.

Meanwhile, Asda came in third place (£84.42), and Tesco followed in fourth (£87.42). Sainsbury’s is in fifth place (£87.79).
The most expensive supermarket to visit is Waitrose with a standard shop coming in at a whooping £97.39 – £20 more than Aldi.
Ocado was said to be the second-most expensive this month (£93.40), and was closely followed by Morrisons (£89.54).
But it's not the only good news for Aldi this week, as the supermarket was also crowned the cheapest place to buy a Christmas dinner. When all the festive foodie favourites were looked at across the board – such as turkey, pigs in blankets and Christmas pudding – it was discovered Aldi is 4p cheaper than Lidl and up to £18 cheaper than Waitrose.
That's a lot of cash isn't it?
It also hit the headlines last week when it revealed it's flogging pigs in blankets stuffed into a pie. According to the product description, the pie is filled with chicken pieces as well as a hearty pig in blanket and all the trimmings of a Christmas dinner. It's all encased in shortcrust pastry and topped with a puff pastry lid.
Shoppers were left drooling when pictures of the savoury treats were shared on Instagram, with many being keen to try them. Talk about taking festive food to the next level!
Julie Ashfield, the managing director of buying at Aldi, said: "Christmas can be an expensive time for everyone, with gifts to buy and families to feed.
"We’re thrilled that at such a crucial time Which? has officially named Aldi as the cheapest supermarket demonstrating our commitment to providing our customers with high quality food at everyday low prices."
