Woman receives tiny rug after mixing up inches and centimetres

When Saoirse Schofield spotted a rug she liked online at a bargain price, she measured it up and thought it would fit perfectly.

But it was only when it arrived that she realised she had mixed up inches and centimetres and it was much smaller than antipicated.

The 24-year-old, from Dublin, Ireland, couldn’t help but laugh when she realised the mistake.

She said: ‘I knew as soon as the package arrived that something wasn’t right. I was expecting a full side rug that was the same length as a bed.

‘Looking at the size of the parcel that arrived and how light it felt when I picked it up, I knew it couldn’t possibly be the right size.

‘After opening the package I just burst out laughing. I thought this is ridiculous. I couldn’t believe how small it was.’

After recently moving house, she chose the rug for beside her bed in her new room.

The area was a bit of an odd shape so she had to do some digging online.

She thought she hit the jackpot after finding this rug at just £5 on Shein.

The graphic design student added: ‘My new room is narrow but really long. When I saw this rug online I thought it would be perfect for my room to go along the floor next to my bed.

‘In the picture on the website it clearly looks like a full-sized rug as it goes along the edge of the bed in the picture, which is exactly how I wanted it to go in my room.

‘I loved the rug as I thought it would break up the wooden floor and add a nice texture to my room. I also loved the neutral colours of it.

‘It was so cheap too. I thought it was such a great bargain.’

Having ordered clothes from the same place before, she thought the rug would be fine but the description led to the measurement mix up.

She said: ‘The measurements of the rug said 120 by 40. I assumed that this was inches judging by the picture.

‘However, I have since measured the piece of material that arrived and it turns out the measurements were in centimetres.

‘It is tiny. It just looks like a piece of material that has been cut off from the rug. I thought it was going to be about four times bigger than what arrived.’

Luckily she saw the funny side as she had only wasted £5.

She said: ‘The piece of material that arrived is really soft and fluffy, so I think I am going to keep it until I can find a rug that actually fit so that my feet are warm when I get out of bed in the morning.

‘I also want to keep it because I just find it so funny.

‘I think I will wait until the shops are open to buy another rug, so I can make sure I am buying the right thing and don’t receive another mini rug.

‘I will be more careful in future when buying online. However I do think the picture of the rug online was extremely misleading, but at least it gave us a good laugh.’
