BTS, Ariana Grande, and Other Artists With MTV VMA Nominations

It’s time to award some of the best artists and their music videos. This year’s Video Music Award nominees included performers like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and newcomers like Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X. There is a new K-Pop category, and there are a few weeks for fans to vote for their favorite artists. Here are a few of the notable nominees for this year’s VMAs.

Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift are the most nominated artists

Thank u, next! Two of the artists with the most nominations at this year’s VMAs include Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift. With Ariana Grande’s latest album, Thank U, Next, came multiple music videos and even a collaboration with Vogue Magazine. Grande has ten nominations this year, including Video of the Year and Artist of the Year.

VMA legend, Taylor Swift, also earned ten nominations for this year’s award show. Her music videos like “You Need to Calm Down” featured many well-known celebrities, like RuPaul, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Adam Rippon. Her song “Me!” featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco also enjoyed nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects.

Lil Nas X and ‘Old Town Road’ are nominated

He’s got the horses in the back and a Video of the Year nomination under his belt. Even though “Old Town Road” premiered only a few months ago, it became an internet sensation, now enjoying 16 weeks at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s “Hot 100” music chart. In fact, the “Old Town Road” singer, Lil Nas X, grabbed a few nominations from the 2019 VMAs.

In addition to Video of the Year, MTV nominated Lil Nas X for Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Best Art Direction. Not bad for one of Twitter’s meme kings.

Artists like Billie Eilish, BTS, and Halsey earned a few nominations

Halsey returns to her home state of New Jersey with her nomination for Artist of the Year. Other nominees include Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Jonas Brothers, Shawn Mendes, and Ariana Grande. Halsey is also nominated in the “Best Collaboration” category, for her song with BTS, entitled “Boy With Luv.”

As one of the most popular artists in the world, the K-Pop group, BTS, earned a few nominations, including Best Art Direction, Best Collaboration, Best Choreography, and Best K-Pop. This is the first year the award show included a K-Pop category. The VMAs nominated BTS, along with artists like BlackPink, EXO, Monsta X ft. French Montana, Tomorrow X Together, NCT 127.

Billie Eilish earned a handful of nominations for her creepy and quirky music videos. “Bad Guy” is nominated for Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Video of the Year. “Hostage” is nominated for Best Cinematography. “When the Party’s Over” is nominated for Best Visual Effects. Billie Eilish also earned the nomination for “Best New Artist.”

MTV’s Video Music Awards take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August 26, 2019, 9 pm EDT.
