BTS ARMY rally round Jin as he releases solo song Abyss after feeling 'burnt out
BTS star Jin has released solo single Abyss for fans and shared how the song came about.
In a letter posted on the group’s blog, the singer, who turns 28 this week, opened up about feeling ‘severely burnt out’ as he ‘had a lot of thoughts about myself’.
He said: ‘Recently, in a press conference, I said: “I don’t like to share my sad feelings with the fans. This is because I only want to show them the good things. However, I feel differently if it’s through music. I don’t like to share it through my everyday actions, but I think it would be okay to show them through music.”
‘To tell you the truth, I was severely burnt out recently, and I think it was because I had many thoughts regarding myself.’
The K-Pop star continued: ‘There are many people who love music more and are better than me, so is it okay for me to receive such joy and congratulations?
‘That’s what I thought, and as I went deeper, I had a hard time, so I wanted to put everything down.’
Jin added that after speaking to their label boss Bang Si-hyuk he was encouraged to put how he was feeling into music.
Describing it as ‘a depressing song that doesn’t fit on your birthday’ he asked his fans to ‘please listen carefully’.
At the end of the letter he thanked his band mate RM for helping him with the lyrics.
The simple yet stunning single artwork features a man staring off into the distance against a background going from dark to light blue.
Some of the lyrics are: ‘I still stay with me/My voice doesn’t come out, I’m only circling you/That dark place/I want to drown in it, I want to go there’.
BTS’ fans, called ARMY, showed their support for his solo effort.
‘Jin’s voice is absolutely beautiful in this song, he worked on this song despite being so busy he’s so amazing,’ read one reaction on Twitter.
Another fan tweeted: ‘This is such a personal song to him and it hurts so much to read but he decided to share this with us still Pleading face the melody is so beautiful and heartfelt.’
‘This is so beautiful I can’t stop crying. Thank you jin for dropping this beautiful song’ a further tweet said.
BTS have had a big year, releasing albums Map Of The Soul: 7 and, more recently, BE.
Singles Dynamite and Life Goes On both hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
