Ex-EastEnders actress Katie Jarvis to stand trial for assault in seafront row

Katie Jarvis, formerly known for her performance as Hayley Slater in EastEnders appeared at the Basildon Crown Court today to be charged for racially aggravated harassment, common assault and two counts of assault by beating.

Details of the case were not given at today’s plea hearing and Katie was bailed until her trial, which is scheduled to take place in April of next year.

The 29 year old from Rainham only spoke to confirm her identity, personal details and to deny the charges put against her.

The trial is in relation to an incident in Southend in Essex that took play in July of last year.

A recording of the incident showed an argument where drinks were thrown.

Katie’s character, Hayley Slater played a huge role in the 2018 Christmas special where she ended up having a baby with Alfie Moon, her second cousin Kat’s husband.

She quit the production in 2019 via a mysterious leaving of Walford in February.

Katie confirmed to the Daily Star Sunday that she was putting her acting career on the back burner so that she could focus on her family life.

She said: "I’ve taken a step back from acting. I’ve got a job and I’m looking after my kids."

Fan’s weren’t too happy with the exit of Hayley’s character as the story had met a sudden end after an explosive holiday season.

A source at The Sun explained: "A lot of people have been wondering where Hayley is after she left so suddenly but the mystery has been solved, she’s in Romford working at B&M.

"There was so much speculation about her departure, but there was no reason to keep the character in Albert Square once the storyline ended and Alfie had gone."

Katie got her first role in the critically acclaimed feature Fish Tank in 2009 where publications like The Guardian noted her performance as ‘Terrific’
