Gemma Collins, 41, is determined to fulfil her musical dreams after a knee injury ruled out her planned appearance in Chicago.

The former TOWIE star was due to play jail warden Matron “Mama” Morton in a UK tour which starts in Sunderland on May 31.

However, a knee injury which first developed during her time on Dancing On Ice has been aggravated and forced Gemma to pull out.

The 41-year-old has been undergoing ice-cold cryotherapy treatment to bring down the swelling on her knee after it ballooned during rehearsals.

A friend of Gemma’s told The Mirror: “She had done so much work for so many months and the producers were really impressed."

“But this old injury just keeps flaring up. She is incredibly upset but is determined that she’ll be back on a musical stage one day when she’s recovered.”

Gemma, who described the pain in her knee as “next level”, is now considering long-term treatment and the possibility of surgery.

The friend said: “There’s no chance of returning later in the run with an injury like this. And it just would not be fair to the show.”

The star has been documenting her knee pain with her Instagram followers.

"Early morning session for my knee. I can't describe the pain," the star captioned a video of herself receiving a treatment at Ice Health Cryotherapy Spa on Tuesday (May 24) morning.

"The swelling is next level," Gemma continued, sharing a snap of her sore-looking knee with her 2.2million followers.

She later added: "My leg has ballooned with my knee. Hopefully this will take the swelling down."

Earlier this month, the TV personality confirmed her wedding is on hold as she and fiancé Rami Hawash are currently trying for a baby.

"I really want to just rest after August and spend time with Rami and make the baby,” she said. “I’ve given myself a six month window."
