Kanye West has claimed he’s changing his name to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West.

The American rapper, who dropped his latest album Jesus is King last month, made the bizarre announcement during a surprise appearance at New York's Fast Company Innovation festival on Thursday.

Kim Kardashian's husband told the crowd: "People say it's crass to call yourself a billionaire.

"But I might legally change my name to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West for a year until y'all understand exactly what it is… It will be on the license plate."

During his speech, he also touch about upon his presidential ambitions.

He quipped: "When I run for president in 2024 …"

His remark amused the audience, but the laughter didn't go down well with the star.

"What y'all laughing at?" he asked "We would create so many jobs! I'm not going to run, I'm going to walk.

"When you see headlines saying Kanye’s crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing, they got no opinion, they’re so scared!"

According to Page Six, the musician told the crowd: "there are only four elements: earth, wind, fire and water. And therefore playing with your iPhone is the same as playing with dirt."

Kanye's ninth studio album Jesus is King is inspired by his faith and musical worship sessions, Sunday Service.

He described the record as a "an expression of the gospel," and recently made history with the release as it dominated the Christian charts.

The tracks currently hold all Top 10 song spots in Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs and Hot Gospel Songs charts.
