Noel and Liam Gallagher sang ‘drunk’ snooker champ Alex Higgins carols for cash

Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam used to sing Christmas carols to Alex Higgins as kids because the drunk snooker legend would always give them money.

The 53-year-old rocker has revealed that he and his younger sibling Liam, 48, would knock at two-time world champion Higgins’ house in Burnage, Manchester, where they grew up and treat him to some festive songs.

As he was always merry he would send them on their way with cash.

Noel said: “Alex Higgins used to live in Burnage. He had this house that had triangular windows in, I’m not sure whether he bought the house because it had triangular windows or if he put them in.

“We used to go to his house singing Christmas carols because he was always p***ed and he’d always give you money.”

Noel never forgot Alex’s kindness and when Oasis took off in the 90s he and the cue king – who died in 2010 aged 61 – became friends and the guitarist would invite him to the band’s concerts.

The Don’t Look Back In Anger singer said: “I was friends with Alex Higgins before he died. Years later he used to come to Oasis gigs, he was far out.”

Noel is also great mates with another snooker icon, Ronnie O’Sullivan, but he admits the game is too complicated for him to play because there is too much maths involved.

He told Matt Morgan’s podcast: “I know Ronnie, I have hung out with Ronnie and he’s a funny f***er.

“I’ve rarely played snooker, I don’t go to snooker tournaments, I would like to go and see Ronnie play though. He’s f***ing far out, he’s the real deal.

“I’m not an avid snooker or pool player, or watcher for that matter. If Ronnie is in a tournament and he gets to the quarter finals then I’ll probably watch it. I wouldn’t say I’m a massive snooker fan.

“Back in the 80s when it was one of the only things on I’d see the big snooker matches that happened, like the Dennis Taylor one and Alex Higgins.

“There’s a lot of maths involved with snooker that I could never be bothered with, ‘What score is it?’ ‘F**k knows.’ With pool it’s pretty easy, you’ve got four balls left, I’ve got two.”
