A Strictly Come Dancing star was bandaged up by medics after they sliced open their leg moments before stepping on stage.
During Saturday’s (October 21) visit to the BBC ballroom, contestants battled it out for a place in next week’s show with their latest jaw-dropping routines. Although the show appeared to run smoothly for the viewers at home, backstage was quite a different story.
Writing for The Telegraph, Angela Rippon revealed how she suffered a painful injury just minutes before she was set to take to the stage with her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington. She explained that the dancing duo were practicing their routine in the final minutes leading up to their performance when she accidentally cut her leg open.

The 79-year-old broadcaster recalled how she managed to carry on with the routine despite medics “staunching the blood” behind the scenes. She claimed that nobody in the audience, nor the judges, had a “clue” what had gone on moments prior to her performance.
Angela explained that she sustained the nasty injury due to a very pointy pair of high heels as they danced in the wings. She revealed: “With just over five minutes to go, Kai and I were doing a last-minute revision of our steps, when my foot stuck on a sticky patch on the floor.
“When I looked down, my leg was bleeding from a cut right on my shin. The razon-sharp edge of my high-heeled dance shoe had sliced off a bit of my flesh while I was doing a twisting manoeuvre.”
Despite her injury, the beloved broadcaster was forced to rip off her tights and add a “camouflaged plaster” to her outfit. The Rip-Off Britain host revealed how the wardrobe team had to cut her out of her skirt while a make-up artist worked on covering up her injury with makeup.
But her mishap meant that the running order for the BBC One show had been changed at the last minute. She went on: “Immediately the Strictly machine swung into action. The medic was called. I knew the cut was not bad enough to stop me taking to the dance floor – but not in the next five minutes.”
Luckily, Nigel Harman and Katya Jones, followed by Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu were already warmed up and went ahead of them while she recovered from her injury. The TV star added: “Out in the studio, everything continued without a hitch.
“No one in the audience, including the judges, had a clue about what was unfolding backstage. The show went on! What a team.” Luckily, the pair managed to give a stellar perform for their Argentine Tango, receiving a score of 31 – their highest score so far of the series.

But not every contestant could compete this week after Sherlock star Amanda Abbington was forced to pull out of the weekend’s show. It was feared one more contestant may have to pull out of the show after Adam Thomas was banned from rehearsals, according to reports.
The actor – who is paired with Luba Muchstuk – reportedly missed out of vital rehearsal time after he had fallen ill with the 35-year-old actor posting a video of himself bedbound earlier this week. Taking to Instagram, he told fans: “Of all weeks to be poorly!” Adding that he’d been drinking Berocca and coffee in an attempt to recover before the show.
Luckily, the stars were able to perform their Couple’s Choice routine to Backstreet Boys Medley by the hit 1990s group. The pair scored an impressive 32 points from the judges with the doting dad even choking up with emotion on the show.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday and Sunday on BBC One from 6.30pm or catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
