Strictlys Amy Dowden angry about cancer and wants to be treated as normal

Strictly star Amy Dowden has admitted she is angry over her breast cancer because she’s always been careful with her health.

The dancer has had to have gruelling chemotherapy after being diagnosed earlier this year at just 32. Amy, now 33, said: "I've always been a good person. I looked after myself, I’ve exercised well, haven’t smoked. I do get angry. I just think I've been dealt a difficult one.

"I think it'll take a while to accept. Until I'm back dancing and back to my normal self, I don’t think I will accept it." Amy has been swamped with support from loved ones and fans since her diagnosis. The star was praised for appearing with her shaved head on Strictly. But she doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her over her cancer hell.

She said: "I just want to be treated as normal. When I’m walking outside and I’ve got my headscarf on, I don’t want looks of sympathy or feeling sorry for me. Sometimes, people don’t know how to address it. Just ask how I am. I will answer you. We don’t want you to feel sorry for us. We’re embracing it. Stand strong with us. Don’t give me that pity look… I don’t need it!"

It comes after Amy has had an emotional morning earlier this month after undergoing her final round of chemotherapy as she celebrated ringing the bell at the end of treatment. The professional dancer took to Instagram to pose outside of the hospital as she held up eight fingers and flashed a smile. She'd dressed up to keep warm in a black coat and a skirt to match as she marked the occasion.

Taking to her socials, Amy wrote on Instagram: "It's chemo number eight! The last one! We are finally here. I've cried all morning! Right an afternoon of chemo and then I'm so lucky and grateful to be able to ring that bell. Will never take it for granted. She added: "Thank you to the incredible Sheldon Unit! You are all amazing, all true heroes. Right here goes. See you all later."

In another snap Amy posed with two other women as they posed together to ring the bell to mark the end of chemotherapy. She wrote: "Today all three of us ring that chemo bell! 32, 35 and 26 when all diagnosed with breast cancer so please this is a note from us three to check your chest! Cancer doesn't discriminate. Our wish to you all is remember to monthly check."

Amy first told her fans that she had been diagnosed with cancer in May after explaining to Hello! magazine that she found a lump in her breast before she was going on her honeymoon. She kept an eye on it and spoke to her GP when she got home and had a biopsy – but was warned it was suspicious and to prepare for the worst. She had grade 3 cancer which meant she needed to get on a treatment plan right away, which meant she wouldn't be on Strictly this year. The TV star has remained firmly involved with the show though and has had brief appearances to present a number of segments.
