Singer Tina Turner dies aged 83
Fans of Tina Turner were left stunned last night when they informed of her death during the interval of Tina the Musical last night.
The audience at Aldwych Theatre in London were told of the icon’s death when the cast appeared on stage in the mid-show break.
Theatregoers said there were “gasps” from the audience as the sad news was announced.
However, the cast decided the show must go on and resumed the performance the interval.
Lyn Smith, 72, from Colchester, went on to describe the atmosphere in the theatre, stating it was “heartbreaking”.
She said: “It was a mixture of sadness and happiness. It’s just unbelievable that we were there when she had died.”
Fans of the music sensation lay flowers outside the Aldwych Theatre, which has been the venue of the smash-hit musical since April 2018.
Tina Turner, who was born Anna Mae Bullock, died aged 83 from an ongoing illness, her publicist confirmed.
While her cause of death remains unknown, she had suffered several health problems in recent years, including a stroke and kidney disease.

Fellow musicians have come out in droves to pay tribute to the late Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll.
The Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, who frequently collaborated with Turner, said: “I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer.
“She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.”
US singer Gloria Gaynor said she “paved the way for so many women in rock music, black and white”.
She continued: “She did with great dignity and success what very few would even have dared to do in her time and in that genre of music. “
Megastar Beyoncé, who has previously performed with Turner, described her as “the epitome of passion and power”.
