Van Morrison is to release anti-lockdown protest songs, it emerged today – and, understandably, the internet has thoughts.
Reps for the music icon announced the tracks Born To Be Free, As I Walked Out and No More Lockdown in a statement, saying: ‘Morrison makes it clear in his new songs how unhappy he is with the way the Government has taken away personal freedom.’
The star, 75, added: ‘I’m not telling people what to do or think, the government is doing a great job of that already.
‘It’s about freedom of choice, I believe people should have the right to think for themselves.’
The news coincides with Prime Minster Boris Johnson today warning of an ‘inevitable’ second wave of coronavirus heading for the UK.
Reacting to the news on Twitter, one fan said: ‘Sadly, the right of free speech also includes the stupid. I really like van morrison’s music too, what a disappointment.’
‘My Mum always hated Van Morrison,’ another commented. ‘It’s so annoying that she’s always right.’
‘So you’re saying that I didn’t have to pretend to like Van Morrison’s music for thirty f***ing years?’ a Twitter user joked. ‘Well, s***.’
As a follower agreed: ‘Morrissey… Van Morrison… are *all* my musical heroes with “Morris” in their names fated to disappoint? Don’t let me down, Morris Albert.’
While one added: ‘Van Morrison. Another one to add to the deluded conspiracy theorist list. He’s at the age that he should be worried what will happen to him should he contract Covid-19.’
Morrison is known for songs like Brow Eyed Girl, Have I Told You Lately and Bright Side of the Road.
He has released 41 studio albums and 71 singles.
