Archive 81 is a supernatural horror series which comes out on Friday 15 January on Netflix. The eight-part drama tells the story of Dan Turner (played by Mamadoe Athie) an archivist who takes on a mysterious job he may live to regret. Here’s everything we know so far about the future of Archive 81.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Archive 81.
Archive 81 has been brought to life by The Boys showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine and The Exorcism of Emily Rose writer Paul Harris Boardman.
Also on board is James Wan as the show’s executive producer who has plenty of experience in this genre.
Not only did he co-create the Insidious franchise and The Conjuring Universe, he was one of the minds behind the iconic Saw film series.
And going by the show’s synopsis, it sounds like Archive 81 is going to be well worth a watch.

The synopsis for the drama reads: “Archive 81 follows archivist Dan Turner, who takes a job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994.
“Reconstructing the work of a documentary filmmaker named Melody Pendras, he is drawn into her investigation of a dangerous cult at the Visser apartment building.
“As the season unfolds across these two timelines, Dan slowly finds himself obsessed with uncovering what happened to Melody.
“When the two characters form a mysterious connection, Dan becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.”
Will there be another series of Archive 81?
As of yet, there has been no talk of bringing Archive 81 back for a second season.
So for now at least, there will be just one series of Netflix’s latest horror series.
But it is still really early days for Archive 81 with those at the streaming service taking viewing figures into account before announcing if a show has been renewed or cancelled.
There is one indication, however, which could point to the series making a comeback.

Archive 81 is based on the popular podcast of the same name which is described as a “found footage horror podcast about ritual, stories, and sound”.
The podcast currently has three seasons so this could mean if series one goes down well with subscribers, Archive 81 could return for more new episodes.
The creators of the original podcast Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell are also producers on the Netflix series so would be able to work with the show on potential future seasons.
